Legal Circumvention - Molecular switches provide a route around existing gene patents

Guess that means Celera's even more fscked than before. I need a science degree to properly analyze these articles. Louisa said “what's the big deal? no duh” or something like that, so this may not exactly be earth-shattering news.

9th Circuit holds “under God” to be Unconstitutional

Bully for them. It's logically sound and too true to ignore. Which of course means it will be overturned as soon as possible, as soon as those monotheistic, proselytizing, thumpers get ahold of it. This decision rekindled my faith in the court system, although I'm sure that will be short-lived.

The Cathedral and the Bazaar

Interesting reading, if a bit gushing/naiive. I even bought the book form, in order to better support my belief systems.

The Changing AdTI Documents

Analysis of the changes in the Tocqueville muppet institution's anti-Open Source white papers. Why do they call 'em white papers, anyway? I could blow my nose on these and then they'd be green papers, or wipe my … you get the picture. Note to self: history behind “white paper” may be interesting, assuming it has to do with being a final policy/statement of position.

The Office Software That Roared

YADKFMS (Yet Another Death Knell For MicroSoft) When even the NYTimes is noticing free software and how it compares favorably to MS office, you know the end is coming.

MS to eradicate GPL, hence Linux

MS to eradicate GPL, hence Linux

Not a good article by any means. It sounds alarmist, reactionary, and a bit too chicken-little for my tastes. Oh, that and I don't think that a DRM chip on mobos will ever take off for the simple reason that people like the freedoms they have now and will go out of their way, if necessary, to keep what they have. Like going to Canada to buy Clipper chip free cell phones.

The Sons and Daughters of Liberty

A new American Revolution? That's the alternative press' spin on these things. I'm just glad to see someone stand up to that lobotomized juggernaught known as the moral majority minority.

Why Software Is So Bad

OK, so I thought it meandered, made few good points, and was rather dull. But since the author believes (or at least espouses the idea) that a products liability type solution will be the ultimate solution to crappy code, I thought I'd put it up.

Disney Shifting to Linux for Film Animation

Yet another death knell for M$ - if even their friends at one of the other Evil Empires is switching over, if linux has made it into the consciousness of the bursars, it's only a matter of time before they say “hey, why are we paying $400 per seat for an office suite and $350 per seat for an OS, again?”

Cult hero holds domain hostage

“hostage” is stretching it, but what else do you expect from the Capitalist Muppets(tm)? This could become the first truly interesting govt v. internet dude dispute in a while.
