Sweet. Another gubment starts using the old noggin. At least, in small doses. It's best not to strain oneself.

Ashcroft's Terrorism Policies Dismay Some Conservatives

Good. That troll needs as many enemies as possible. The bonus to having these particular enemies is that they'll burn 'im at the stake if they don't like him.

Music labels go after song-swappers

Music labels go after song-swappers

So the RIAA's down to suing individuals. If this isn't the stupidest possible move for the industry in terms of long-term goodwill, I don't know what is. Of course, with the market below 9,000, the RIAA attorneys (AKA the bulldogs of Vivendi and Sony) could just need some billables. Yet another reason not to use P2P, as if the clueless ijits on the networks weren't enough.

Whither the Indie Grease Monkey?

Whither the Indie Grease Monkey?

More hand-wringing over change. This time, it's about indie mechanics who can't service cars because they can't afford the specialized diagnostic tools. Sure, I see the antitrust overtones and will miss the days when I could get ripped off by someone I knew rather than some faceless corporate mechanic, but that's the way the macroeconomic world turns. Or something like that.

Cyberlaw: Cybersmart or cybersilly? Sketpics cast doubt on hot new legal field

Arguments against creating “new” law for the internet. To me, this is all about semantics, as the law is going to change, and change drastically most likely, regardless of whether or not it is “new” or known as “internet law.” More flies pointlessly arguing as the swatter comes down.

Microsoft's anti-piracy plans spark controversy

Gee, I'm shocked that a sterling company like M$ would *gasp* have a ham-fisted EULA for users wishing to upgrade their monopoly-catalyst v13.2 (AKA Media Player). This one requires users to permit the automatic installation of undisclosed future anti-piracy measures. Who's the attorney writing these EULA's anyway? In-house tool or is PGE doing this? Ye gods.
