Linux lands big bank account

“The European arm of Banco do Brasil, the largest bank in South America, is switching from Windows to Linux to cut costs and centralise support.” …

“The long-term strategy is to phase out Windows completely. Linux is also being used to replace Windows on desktops.”

You go, Banco do Brasil, you bad studmuffin, you!

Bush Cuts Pay Raises for Federal Workers

Typical “failed CEO” behavior: help your cronies, screw your employees, and announce all bad news on a Friday, especially a Friday following a holiday. Way to go, bush! I hope the fed union rakes your know-nothing ass over the coals.

The Latest Kissinger Outrage

Slate analyzes the Kissinger debacle, albeit with more outrage than I feel.

Kissinger to Lead 9/11 Inquiry

Yeah, you know, because war criminal/megalomaniac Kissinger is such a critic of government. I'm sure he'll find all sorts of things wrong. Like we didn't bomb Laos. The administration and all the agencies, of course, will have been perfect. What an ultra-maroon (him and bush)

Muslim official in Nigeria calls for death of woman who wrote Miss World article

Words are just failing me here. Because, you know, the whole problem wasn't caused by this attitude in the first place, and violence is always the answer… jebus.

Bush Saves Turkey from Thanksgiving Dinner Table

The joke is, of course, that bush's number of pardons for turkeys is equal to the number of people he has pardoned. oh yeah, we're not supposed to talk about how or why he pardoned a cuban terrorist despite all reason, evidence, and the existence of more compelling cases to pardon … are we?

Another shot in the FOSS wars, this time (again) in India. So much for the MS marketing tour ($421m, my ass. How much of that is “donated software” again?). If you get past the government corruption, there is simply no way that a country as impoverished as India can justify going with a windows solution when free-as-in-beer and -speech software is readily available. Look for that 10% of the world's programming population to increase in the future.

Piqua?s library has to flesh out its own Web site

Heh. This library, see, it installed some filtering software, see. Problem? The library is named “Flesh Public Library” (after the founder, whose surname was Flesh). So, anyway, the filtering software filtered the library's own site. Hee!

Things wrong with baseball

25 items and at least 20 of them are reasonably intelligent
suggestions/discussions? No effin way! I've been moved to an alternate universe, right? OBP, short right-handers, no armor, wood bats, transaction rules, rippin on the commisioner and MLB?

As Gammons himself once said when analyzing a prospect: “wow”

“Visa” Torn From Dictionary by Credit Card Company

Go EFF, Go! Man, that was a stupid fed court decision. Appeals should overturn it, as the decision is patently ridiculous - and contrary to all interpretations of law that I know.

Colorado-Arizona trade called off

O'Dowd is saved from his own stupidity by Larry Walker's self-interest. Go Larry Walker! Oh, and fire O'Dowd. The guy's flailing.

Verizon sues to block privacy rules

So Verizon's suing to block a law passed to protect our privacy, because they realized they can make (even more) money off of our private habits. How much do you want to bet that after they lose this tack, they'll go for a Takings claim?

On the Microsoft FTP server leak

What I want to know is: where's the negligence suit for improperly protecting customer privacy? I wasn't injured, but I'd be willing to lead a class action against 'em.

50 Killed Over Miss World Article

50 Killed Over Miss World Article

Is there no end to the ridiculous violence caused by religion? No limits upon the amount of idiocy contained within the hormonal and reptilian-brain responses of zealots? I'm not singling out Muslims here, this just happens to be particularly stupid. Riots, stabbing and the setting of bystanders on fire, and two deaths … because an op-ed said Mohammed would've approved of the Miss World contest? Are you fucking shitting me?
