U.S. Says Hussein Must Cede Power to Head Off War

What?! So, the armchair-general illegitimate government has finally thrown off its pretenses, huh? Everyone said this would happen. Every other nation predicted that, even if Iraq acceded to everything the UN asked of it, the US would come up with some new demand in order to justify its bloodlust. I'm so ashamed to be a fellow citizen of these twerps in DC.

Miller doesn't quite understand Fehr's actions

Marvin Miller is one of the heroes of baseball, but only the cognoscenti know it. He should be in the Hall and we should all treasure this cantankerous mofo while he's still around. Go Marv!

Microsoft pushes for weakening of anti-spam law

They don't want spammers using their services, but it's perfectly fine for MS to waste bandwidth. What a bunch of clueless gits. At least form a shadow company or something not affiliated with yourself, particularly when you've got a large part of the world hating you and even more people watching you closely. For supposedly intelligent people, that shit's really dumb.

Nuke Lab Can't Keep Snoops Out

A reporter walks into… and out of … Los Alamos. Undetected and with no planning. I don't know if there's even anything worthwhile there besides some irradiated soil and some leftover embezzled backpacks and he who defends everything defends nothing and all, but still… put up a damn fence, Ridge!

Ireland has had a secret data retention regime in place for almost a year

Ye gods.

“Ireland has had a secret data retention regime for almost a year, after the Cabinet confidentially instructed telecommunications operators to store traffic information about every phone, fax and mobile call for at least three years.”

On its face, it doesn't look like much more than a pen register (except for the 3-year part), but it doesn't hurt to watch out for these things.

How the Protesters Mobilized

I really don't care how the protesters mobilized (answer: technology, baybee!), but is anyone else bothered by the byline? This article was written by “Jennifer 8. Lee”. 8? 8?! Is it a pun? Did Jennifer eat Lee (and when)? I've seen this byline before and you'd think the writer would notice if her middle name didn't begin with a number, you know?

Unless, of course, the article is being written by a robot!!

Condition Orange as a Way of Life; Colin Powell and the Great “Intelligence” Fraud; …

Some interesting reading there, including a pretty darn good debunking of Powell's cave-in to the rove-wolfowitz axis of bloodthirstiness. the article goes off on those silly hyperbolic extremist arguments (e.g. the intercepts), so he gets mega negative points for that, but it's still a worthwhile read.

Caddy's Big & Tall

(sub-title) It's a truck that's hard to miss. Plus, you can frighten small children and suburban livestock with it.

This could be a hack, but I don't care. If not, it's the best vehicle review, EVER!

Bush Says Worldwide Protests Won't Change Approach to Iraq

Because, you know, why should an unelected government listen to the people? After all, it's not as if the people are the ones to whom the government must answer.

Turkey Signals Delay in Decision on U.S. Troop Deployments

Yeah, having millions upon millions demonstrate against the war and a declaration of non-assistance by many mideast states'll give you the political backbone to hem and haw, don't ya think?

Face it, bushies, you've already lost. You've got one country nearby where you can base land troops (Saudi Arabia) and a couple carrier groups from which you can launch in the Gulf. If you get to urban warfare in Baghdad - which you must if you want to remove Saddam - the body count is going to turn even the quiescent American populace against you. Yes, even the red part of the country. Retards.

TurboTax: Sector 33 Naughtiness

Don't buy TurboTax! Here's what they're doing in the name of DRM: they're writing registration key info to your boot sector. a) that's a big no-no, b) it's not safe to write there, and c) it violates your fair use rights with regard to the program. Fuck you, TurboTax. I hope your DRM “solution” wipes out someone's harddrive and they sue you for millions.

Rice Tells U.N. to Keep Pressure

Rice Tells U.N. to Keep Pressure

“It is time for this to end, enough is enough,” Condoleezza Rice, the national security adviser, said today.

Face it, the majority of the world believes our illegitimate government to be on the wrong side of this debate. Do we open discourse? Do we examine ourselves and our motives? No! We threaten! We use fighting words! We ignore everyone but those who agree with us. It's ridiculous.

Because, you know, you can't send 200,000 troops to some region and not use them, right?

Fucking armchair generals and cowboy monkeyboys with power. Never has the lack of democracy in this country been made more readily apparent. Over 60% of the people do not want war now. Over 4 million people demonstrated yesterday against a war. In America, alone. But do you expect a non-elected government to listen to the people? Of course not. We're totally invading in 2 weeks or so. I hope the Israelis are ready for Iraq's attacks. I hope we're ready for significant losses in urban fighting. I hope we're ready for a new generation of terrorists. I hope we're ready to be kicked out of the region with our tails between our legs when our “statebuilding” plans go awry and the natives kick us out. What a nightmare.

Mark my words, this will become one of the biggest negative marks in American history, right up there with both Cuban adventures, the Jim Crow laws, internment camps, the Mexican and Phillipine imperialism, and Disney. This is not a Just War. And I'm not saying that because I disagree with it. Any invasion by the US of Iraq, now, has absolutely no support in Just War theory. I'm still working on my essay for that, but plainly put we will be in the wrong. Feh.
