Opera unleashes Swedish Chef on MSN

In response to MS' attempt to torpedo the browser that's winning the phone/mobile devices/embedded wars by breaking the msn page for the Opera browser, Opera released a new version with a fix for this bad, likely illegal, behavior by MS.

but instead of suing MS, they made it so that MSN displays as if it were read by the Swedish Chef. Hah! bork bork bork! (note: this is also likely an illegal action. the difference is, MS'll sue)

NYT Corrections for 12 Feb 2003

“Because of an editing error, a front-page article yesterday about diplomatic developments in the Iraq crisis misidentified the Bush administration official who said about the weapons inspectors in Iraq, “At some point it will become obvious that it's time for them to go.” It was an administration official speaking on condition of anonymity, not Condoleezza Rice, President Bush's national security adviser.” (emphasis added)

BWA! Busted!

Tape Ascribed to bin Laden Urges Muslims to Stand With Iraq

Colin, your undies are showing. Key passages: “fighting on the same side of godless regimes like that of Saddam Hussein was justified by the greater good of battling the United States.” (emphasis added)

“The fighting should be in the name of God only, not in the name of national ideologies, nor to seek victory for the ignorant governments that rule all Arab states, including Iraq.

Yeah, that's a real strong link, bushies. Pffft. And the American media has been embarassingly unquestioning. Looks like the prime time drivebys are working, eh wot? The BBC has a full transcription of the tape available.

CCIA v. Microsoft

“On February 11, 2003, CCIA confirmed that it has filed a formal complaint with the European Commission in Brussels against Microsoft Corporation. The complaint focuses on Microsoft?s new and widespread violations of European competition law, and seeks intervention by the Commission to restore competition to the markets that Microsoft now dominates and to prevent future harm to these and other markets.”

Baghdad Back Flip: Colin Powell's cynical reversal

If you want to know why the rest of the world doesn't trust us, and why nothing coming out of our government about Iraq should be taken without a hefty bag full of “whatever.” Squeal, Powell, squeal!

So You think "Reality TV" is Real?

So You think “Reality TV” is Real?

One of the people voted off on Survivor (S2, I think) is suing CBS because, allegedly, they directed the outcome. Boo freakin hoo, huh. Sour grapes, huh.

Well, maybe not so much. Here's the deposition in the case (the Survivor cast member was countersued for, like, $5m so she's the defendant here) from a third-party witness. The one who told the complainant about the rigging of the votes. And he's a total thumper, so credibility isn't his problem.

It's long, but it's an interesting read. The gasp moment is about a third of the way in.

Anyone want to bet the entire Joe Millionaire bullshit is a complete ruse as well? I mean, along with the misogyny and general retardedness (it's on FOX, so that's de rigueur)…

PETA's worst-dressed list

PETA's worst-dressed list

Phuck the PETA! Hypocritical st*rrfuckers, every one. Madonna gets off after wearing a lamb fetus jacket because she bans hunting on her estate? JLo gets off because Ben Affleck is an animal lover? Ridiculous. But then again, without this level of shrill indignation combined with moronic busybody sensibilities, would it still be the PETA?

U.S. Raises Terror Alert, Warning of High Risk of Attacks

This, of course, has absolutely nothing to do with making people feel uneasy (“warning: apartment complexes may be targets!”) and itching for a fight immediately prior to our invasion of Iraq. Oh, did I say invasion? I mean fully-justified enforcement of UN Resolutions, of course. pffft. We're always at high risk from terrorist attack, it's just a fact of life these days. Whatever.
