Kerry Wins in New Hampshire

Of course he won NH; it's basically his back yard. So now we're down to a 4 horse race, and Edwards is going to get killed on super Tuesday because he doesn't have any money. Clark's still doing well. Kerry may be the most electable, and he's liberal in many ways, but he doesn't get me going (actually, he strikes me as an aloof, pandering, blueblood asshat whom I would hate in real life, but who gives a shit about my view?)

The next week is going to be really, really interesting.

Forget the South, Democrats

Forget the South, Democrats

Word. Fuck the south. Actually, fuck most of the blue states as they are merely leeches on the prosperous coastal states of the country. That whole section of the country? That's our East Germany.

For the fundie racists idiots below the Mason-Dixon line: please secede again and take your NASCAR with you.

The Kennedy Comeback

The Kennedy Comeback

You want to see how the GOP is going to attack the Dem survivor (doesn't matter which one), here's a preview. Excuse me, but are Safire, Brooks, or Novak anything but GOP operatives anymore?

Best section: “These assumptions, to be tested soon enough, have Democratic soothsayers predicting a Kerry-Edwards ticket at the Boston convention. What delicious diversity: North and South, with Kerry's fatal Massachusettsism ameliorated by Edwards's Carolina charm; the experience of craggy Kerry enlivened by the passionate optimism of the boyish Edwards.

But the political philosophy these two men have embraced is lopsidedly leftist: In this campaign, they have clawed their way up the greasy pole of politics with a pitch that is pure populism. Both men have risen high in Democratic polls with a brand of class resentment and soak-the-rich rhetoric rooted in the old-fashioned liberalism of Ted Kennedy.”

Oh ho! Ted Kennedy! Ahahaahah! (shameful thing is that it'll work in the south, too). Nice alliteration, dude. Pretty peppy party, perchance? It's no nattering nabobs of negativism, but not bad for an old, worn-out, hack.

Boone injures knee, could miss '04

Aaron Boone, that is. This league-average 3B is getting paid 5.75M to play for the Yankees and his contract expressly forbids him from playing basketball. So what does he do? He plays basketball and tears his ACL.

Dumbass.

Those Boones sure are a smart group o' guys, huh. Ye gods.

Red Sox Sign Womack to Minor League Deal

Red Sox Sign Womack to Minor League Deal

The hell? Womack's got to be one of the bottom 3 shortstops in MLB, and this smart, savvy, performance-oriented front office signs him? Pokey Reese I can understand – he's a vacuum out there, and Lowe needs that. Womack is Reese with the stick and me on defense.

I just don't get it. He probably won't make the team, but still. I don't get it.

A Taste of Linux

Four live CD distros are tested, 3 rated. Knoppix wins (Gnoppix wasn't rated since it's still in beta). Others to try: MandrakeLive and Slax. Probably some others.

'Little point' in WMD search

'Little point' in WMD search

"Pentagon and CIA officials appear to have accepted that there is little point in searching for weapons stockpiles in Iraq, and will now concentrate on auditing Iraqi claims of their destruction."

So there's no actual weapons, we know it, and… we're going to focus on whether or not they kept their books in order?! Isn't this a bit like being accused of plagiarism, being proven not to have, and then having someone pore over your table of contents for typographical errors.

JFC. If the voters don't oust this bush guy, they deserve everything they get. Too bad I'm in the same country as them.

The Tyranny of Copyright?

The Tyranny of Copyright?

A copyleft v. copyright argument. One of the copyright defenders, Jane Ginsburg, was a professor of mine. Eben Moglen called her and followers of the copyright regime a “copyright droid” (he called her a bunch of other things too, but that's between them).

I agree with Moglen's assessment.

Do NOT Use IE

Do NOT Use IE

… because there are some severe, unfixed bugs in it that are being used daily to get people's credit card and bank accounts. This one combines Patriot Act FUD with the known IE bug.

IE users are chumps, but they're subsidizing my ad-free browsing experience, so I'm happy that the slaughtercows are taking the hit for me.

Toyota Overtakes Front of Ford as No. 2

It's tough competing with well-educated, well-paid, hard-working people on the global market. Ford needs a subsidy!

Inspector Says WMD Are Vaporware

Inspector Says WMD Are Vaporware

The Boston Globe broke the rumors of David Kay's resignation a while back, but now it is official. Announced on a Friday after the markets close, naturally.

Of the astonishing things Kay says, one is "I don't think [WMDs] existed. What everyone was talking about is stockpiles produced after the end of the last (1991) Gulf War, and I don't think there was a large-scale production program in the nineties."

Oh, really? No shit.

When will the media and We, the People, finally hold this silver spoon-fed C+ Augustus accountable for his crimes and misdeeds?

WMD in Iraq: Evidence and Implications

WMD in Iraq: Evidence and Implications

This is probably the greatest and best analysis to come from the war to date. It lays bare the administration's mendacity and, in my opinion, should leave those responsible answerable in an international tribunal.

Make no mistake, this will be a historic document. Even if the slaughtercow boob-tube zombies of America (or at least those few who chose to vote in the Iowa caucuses) think the war is a non-issue.

Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, you have my gratitude and respect.

Infiltration of files seen as extensive

Infiltration of files seen as extensive

"Republican staff members of the US Senate Judiciary Commitee infiltrated opposition computer files for a year, monitoring secret strategy memos and periodically passing on copies to the media, Senate officials told The Globe. From the spring of 2002 until at least April 2003, members of the GOP committee staff exploited a computer glitch that allowed them to access restricted Democratic communications without a password. Trolling through hundreds of memos, they were able to read talking points and accounts of private meetings discussing which judicial nominees Democrats would fight – and with what tactics… the scandal highlights GOP dirty tricks that could result in ethics complaints to the Senate and the Washington Bar – or even criminal charges under computer intrusion laws."

This is more widespread than previously reported and more serious than even I had imagined. What a bunch of dirty, evil, assholes.
