It's Official: Gregoire is WA Gov

It's Official: Gregoire is WA Gov

The mewlings of the GOP on this have been quite entertaining. Fucking hypocrites.

First, Dino Rossi came in first in the Washington governor's race by a minuscule margin, and the automatic recount by an even slimmer margin. He asked Democrat Christine Gregoire to concede. Then he lost by a miniscule margin after the the hand recount. Now the Republican Secretary of State has certified the election and Gregoire is the winner and official Governor-elect.

So now Rossi has a new angle. He says Gregoire should join him in calling for a whole new election to be held. You know, to ensure the integrity of the process.

Three words: Florida 2000, bitches!

Two more: Move on.

Hastert to replace Ethics Chair

Hastert to replace Ethics Chair

with someone less likely to censure or impeach the soon-to-be-indicted Bug Man DeLay.

This is your GOP, ladies and gents. Nothing matters except rule by brute force and money is the sole determinant of power. There is no ethos, no moral code, no paradigm that cannot be modified, bent, or broken on behalf of protecting Tom DeLay from his own illegal activities.

Gov't Favors More Abortions

Gov't Favors More Abortions

They don't say that in so many words, but by the elimination of any mention of RU486 in the DoJ's medical guidelines for treating sexual assault victims has the same effect.

RU486, if taken in time, prevents conception from even occurring. Not mentioning this easy control will inevitably lead to an increase in the number of abortions as rape victims conceive.

Grr…

You want another reason to hate Ayn Rand?

… Because her morally bankrupt philosophy spawns asshat followers, like those of the Ayn Rand Institute who issued a press release stating that US aid to disaster victims is wrong, but private charity:

may be entirely proper, especially considering that most of those affected by this tragedy are suffering through no fault of their own. (emphasis added)

Most?!?

I'm sure this has nothing - NOTHING! - to do with Gonzales' upcoming confirmation hearing for AG.

Brad DeLong bringin the WW2 history

Brad DeLong bringin the WW2 history

Have I mentioned I'm a history nut, yet? DeLong normally writes about economics, but he gives an interesting post here about basic realities of the tactical situation in the ETO 1944. Sure, it's basic History 202 stuff… but it's still fun to read.

Oh, he was commenting on the ridiculous assertion that western armies were less effective because we have a less martial society. :eyeroll:

Santa's Helpers busted in drug arrests

The packages were labeled as toys for good girls and boys and the business was called Santa's Helpers. But authorities say the packages were nothing more than a naughty ruse to cover a large-scale drug smuggling operation….

Iraq - Just as Deadly as Vietnam

When controlling for improved medical treatment and such. Sending infantry out for a third tour is like making WW2 bomber pilots go for 50 missions instead of 25. Along with many other things about this administration, that's criminal.

    The Da Vinci Crock

I'll have to extract my TDC review from the old CMS database here at some point, but suffice it to say: I hated it. It's hackneyed, amateurish, poorly written tripe… and yet a bazillion sheeple have read it and "love it."

    Fawkin sheeple. Baaaaaah

Tsunami Hits! Clinton Leads, Bush Cowers

I just can't let this go. Turns out the power of the Clenis has been evident since the quake/tsunami

…In Germany, Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder cut short his vacation and returned to work in Berlin because of the Indian Ocean crisis, which began with a gigantic underwater earthquake. In Britain, the predominant U.S. voice speaking about the disaster was not Bush but former president Bill Clinton, who in an interview with the BBC said the suffering was like something in a “horror movie,” and urged a coordinated international response

    cf:

…Earlier yesterday, White House spokesman Trent Duffy said the president was confident he could monitor events effectively without returning to Washington or making public statements in Crawford, where he spent part of the day clearing brush and bicycling. Explaining the about-face, a White House official said: “The president wanted to be fully briefed on our efforts. He didn't want to make a symbolic statement about 'We feel your pain.' “

    More Clinton

…”It is really important that somebody take the lead in this,” he told BBC Radio 4's Today program.

“I think one of the problems is when everybody takes responsibility it's almost like no one's responsibility.”

Clinton said individual countries should target aid at specific areas.

“Maybe what we should do is get countries or groups of countries to take responsibility for specific countries that were hurt,” he said.

“I think if you did that you would have a better chance of seeing responsibilities fulfilled even when the emotional tug wanes”…

Tsunami Hits! Bush Response: I'm not Clinton!

I know the power of the clenis is extraordinary and all, but really people, he's been out of office for almost 4 years now. Move on, would ya?

Earlier yesterday, White House spokesman Trent Duffy said the president was confident he could monitor events effectively without returning to Washington or making public statements in Crawford, where he spent part of the day clearing brush and bicycling. Explaining the about-face, a White House official said: "The president wanted to be fully briefed on our efforts. He didn't want to make a symbolic statement about 'We feel your pain.' "

Duffy went on to say that actions speak louder than words and that is what Bush is all about. Actions? Like… "clearing brush" on his ranch?

60,000+ Dead in Asia… Bush Pledges $15M in support

number likely to climb to over 100,000 shortly.

For those keeping track at home, $15M is less than half of the amount to be spent on duhbya's second inauguration ball.

United Nations' humanitarian-aid chief called the donation “stingy.”

Where are those xian values now, huh? I hate these people.
