Let’s see… the price of oil is at an all-time high, worldwide capacity is near-peak and will only go down while demand is rising, and we could face an economic crisis because of the inevitable oil shortages and price hikes. What’s a President to do? I’ve got a few ideas on that, but what a preznit does is propose that we turn our decommissioned bases into oil refineries and nookular power plants (the nookular plants would be via insurance offers).
Oil refineries and nookular power plants. Instead of, say, turning these vast tracts of land into national parks or conservatories or educational facilities while investing in alternative energy sources that would lessen, perhaps eliminate, our dependence on foreign oil (or oil altogether). Just a thought. A President might do something like that.
duhbya’s proposals would, of course, just make our country even more dependent on the oil people, you know the ones who bailed out chimpy’s many failed businesses because they knew a situation like this might present itself some day. (We can insure nuclear reactors, but not the people who work there? That’s a disturbing priority system). This would make us more polluted, unlivable, crass, tasteless, and uglier. Just like the bush preznitcy.
Well, well, well look who’s here… none other than lying embezzler Iranian agent Chalabi… in charge of Iraqi oil!!!
However, several of the 36 ministries will be occupied by acting ministers until final names are decided. Jaafari will be acting defence minister and Ahmad Chalabi will be acting oil minister, the parliamentary speaker said.
He’s got to have dirty pictures of Wolfowitz and duhbya engaged in a little greco-roman wrestling or something. No other explanation for this charlatan’s continued existence.
Remember back when we were invading Iraq to secure a lot of oil for the 51st state beat up on an easy, easily vilified, target contain their weapons of mass destruction? Only there weren’t any?
The 101st Fighting Keyboarders then took refuge in a whacked out conspiracy theme that all the WMDs were transported to Syria in, I think, ambulances and fire trucks. Well… it just ain’t so.
U.S. investigators hunting for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq have found no evidence that such material was moved to Syria for safekeeping before the war, according to a final report of the investigation released yesterday.
What’s a wingnut to do now? Where’s the grassy knoll when you need it?
It’s a good, common-sense, anti-crime issue . So said Florida Governor Jeb Bush of an NRA backed law which he signed that gives Floridians the legal right to shoot people in public places.
Senate Bill 436 was originally introduced to put into law the common law “Castle Doctrine” which allows a person to use deadly force when attacked in his home. The National Rifle Association saw a golden opportunity to extend this doctrine to anywhere in public that someone is challenged.
Under previous law, a person had to use every reasonable means to avoid deadly force including fleeing the area to avoid danger. With encouragement from the NRA, the Florida Legistlature and Governor Bush have now told Floridians that it is legal for them to hold their ground and meet force with force as long as he or she believes force is necessary to prevent bodily injury. (“Honest, officer, I was provided with faulty intelligence that he had a handgun in his pocket. It wasn’t my fault that I shot him.”–The Weapons of mass destruction defense)
“It’s literally mind-boggling in its audacity,” said Arthur Hayhoe of Wesley Chapel, president of the Florida Coalition to Stop Gun Violence. “If I make a mistake, all I have to do is repeat the NRA’s magic words: “I feel threatened.’ ” I call this the “right-to-murder’ bill.”
Oh, don’t worry Wesley. These folks always err on the side of life. If Jeb Bush signed it, its got to be okay.
Things are worse than they’ve ever been. Even with Condi trying to hide these stats and pretend they don’t exist, somehow they always seem to leak out.
Sure am glad the colonial invasion of Iraq made the world safe for democracy and ended terrorism as we know it.
Orders for Durable Goods Fell Sharply in March.
Orders to U.S. factories for big-ticket manufactured goods plunged 2.8 percent in March, the biggest setback in 2.5 years and the third straight decline, the Commerce Department said Wednesday.
The March drop, showing much more weakness than had been expected, followed declines of 0.2 percent in February and 1.2 percent in January. It left new orders for durable goods, everything from bicycles to battleships, at a seasonally adjusted $194.03 billion in February.
The weakness in durable goods orders was just the latest evidence that the economy may be entering another “soft patch” as consumers and businesses, jolted by a sharp increase in energy prices, cut back on their purchases.
The GOP’s policies took what should have been a roaring comeback and turned it into a malaise. Now, the pedal’s to the the metal and we’re slipping back toward recession. Nice job, elites! I think the term “soft patch” is the new euphemism. Got to keep up with the NewSpeak.

MS has really stepped in it this time. AmericaBlog and the Stranger weigh in on the abandonment of gay rights.
Oh, and they’ve also teemed up with fascist theocratic wonderboy Ralph Reed:
Microsoft Corp. is paying social conservative Ralph Reed $20,000 a month as a consultant, triggering complaints that the well-connected Republican with close ties to the White House and to evangelist Pat Robertson may have persuaded the company to oppose gay rights legislation.

The GOP is starting to give lip service to support of stem cell Research.
My prediction is that it goes nowhere because Bush vetos the bill, and then there aren’t enough votes to over ride the veto. Next election the GOP congressmen can hit the campaign trail and say, “See? No reason to vote for the Democrat, we tried to get it passed but we we got vetoed.”
Most of the Southern Congressmen can safely vote against stem cell research because the GOP in the south has shown that it can run anyone with a pulse and win. The GOP will be playing to the more moderate audiences in other states to show them they are reasonable.
Our government hasn’t gotten a bit smarter since the days when Medical Schools had to have a grave robber on staff to provide cadavers for their students to study.
Consumer Confidence Dips; New Home Sales Up.
The Conference Board said Tuesday that its Consumer Confidence Index fell 5.3 points to 97.7 for April, down from a revised reading of 103.0 in March. The new reading was slightly lower than the 98.0 forecast by analysts.
Home sales are up, though. People are trying to get in while the getting’s good, I think.
Bush Extends Social Security Tour as Support in Polls Dwindle.
So the “little government” GOoPers have now spent tens of millions of we, the People‘s money and all they’ve got to show for it is a bunch of civil liberties violations and no support for their entirely partisan goal.
Some cartoon and some live action thingies. I hope hope hope it’s as bad as that xmas special from back in the day that he’s tried to get excised from the world. Good thing I have a copy. It was so bad, it made baby jesus cry.
Here’s to you, Lucas! I hope you keep it up with the new series.
Look who’s blogging now! Why, it’s Barry Bonds!
I think it’s a great move on Barry’s part. The media does hate him. They really, really do. Because they think they’re the story and want their egos stroked, and Barry doesn’t give a hoot. So they pitch a fit and call the greatest hitter in the history of the game all sorts of things. If he were just a bit nicer, he’d have no problems, but the tendency of ego-inflated sports journalists to somehow believe *they* are the story just grates.
It’s things like this that make me think that big media is going to be largely marginalized in the near future. The news will be down to the car chases and fires and kitten in a tree stories soon, as all celebs start to go around the big media filter to take their “message” directly to the public. TV appearances will be limited to fluff, largely E! and the like in concert with their “personal” blogs written by their PR firms.
Secret Service records raise new questions about discredited conservative reporter.
Turns out JimmyJeff was a frequent White House visitor, and *cue eyebrow raises, pursed lips, and listen to the right’s willful ignorance of the implications* the logs of his entries are frequently missing a check out time. You know what that means, right?
Guckert made more than 200 appearances at the White House during his two-year tenure with the fledging conservative websites GOPUSA and Talon News, attending 155 of 196 White House press briefings. He had little to no previous journalism experience, and previously worked as a male escort.
Perhaps more notable than the frequency of his attendance, however, is several distinct anomalies about his visits.
Guckert made more than three dozen excursions to the White House when there were no scheduled briefings. On many of these days, the Press Office held press gaggles aboard Air Force One?which raises questions about what Guckert was doing at the White House.
On at least fourteen occasions, Secret Service records show either the entry or exit time missing. Generally, the existing entry or exit times correlate with press conferences; on most of these days, the records show that Guckert checked in but was never processed out.
So… who was he visiting? Hmmm?
Will they hold Frist to the Whoopi standard? Of course not. Why? Because there is no liberal media. Hell, there is no fair media. They’ve been worked over so well by the right in the past 30 years that media reportage is, obviously and provably and unapologetically in the right’s pocket. And it’s not even because they’re particularly conservative; it’s because they’re craven, lazy, louts who have brought low their once lofty profession.
