As I toured some of the ~~asshat~~ right wing blogs today, I noticed that the ~~asshats~~ pundits on the right side of the aisle have been crowing about how the Liberal side will no longer be able to argue against the popularity of the Iraq war. Americans are now stepping up to the plate and the U.S. Army after 5 consecutive months of missing its recruitment goals, exceeded its June Goal of 5, 650 by 507 recruits.

Woo…hoo!!! We did it! But doesn’t that seem a little strange folks? I mean, the war is at an all time high in unpopularity, many Americans are questioning whether we should have gone there at all, and the majority of Americans are finally realizing that the Preznit couldn’t figure out how to pour piss out of a boot if the instructions were written on the bottom. Why the sudden turn around in recruiting??

Shoot…….easy…..nothing to it. If you are not meeting your goal……lower it!! Note that the Army exceeded the June goal of 5,650 by 507 recruits……….but if it hadn’t have lowered the original goal which was 6,700, it would have missed its goal again by 545. Are these guys smart or what?

I believe the original goal for June was 8,050 actually, (and 80,000 for the year). This was then revised downward twice and it’s the second downward revision that they have exceeded. In order to reach the 80,000 they are going to have to average more than 10,000/month for the next 3 months.

Remember, the summer (HS graduation) months are their best recruiting times.

On Friday, the Army is expected to announce that it met only 75 percent of its recruiting goal for May, the fourth consecutive monthly shortfall in the number of new recruits sent to basic training. Just over 5,000 new recruits entered boot camp in May.

But the news could have appeared worse. Early last month, the Army, with no public notice, lowered its long-stated May goal to 6,700 recruits from 8,050. Compared with the original target, the Army achieved only 62.6 percent of its goal for the month.

Army officials defended the shift on Tuesday, saying it was not uncommon to change monthly goals at midyear. They said that the latest change reflected the reality that the Army was not going to meet its May goal, and that it made more sense to shift some of that quota to the summer months, traditionally a better season for recruiters to attract new high school graduates.
