Dems drop the ball, Biden gets golden asshat award

Karen Hughes was up for confirmation today and not a single Dem showed up to question her.

Hughes. Bush’s other brain. Part of the strategery team behind Iraq. A leakee in the Plame investigation. Hughes.

As if that weren’t bad enough, Biden (D-MBNA) sent this love letter:

Mr. Chairman, I regret that previous commitments prevent me from attending the confirmation hearing this morning.

I am particularly interested in and supportive of the nomination of Karen Hughes to be undersecretary of state for public diplomacy. What this job requires, among other things, is continuity. The last two undersecretaries have stayed six and 18 months, respectively.

I met with the nominee yesterday and understand that, barring unforeseen circumstances, she is willing to stay through the president’s term.

I believe that she is highly qualified because of her professional background, and, importantly, enjoys the full confidence of the president and the secretary of state.

She will bring new energy and creativity to our public diplomacy efforts. I commend the president for choosing her and persuading her to return to Washington, and I look forward to working with her for the next three years on this important foreign policy priority.

Hey Joe, I’ve got three letters for you: G, F, and Y.

More disturbing evidence that many of the leading democrats have no spine. If the GOP had laid down when the Democrats were in power, the way the Democrats are laying down now, Comprehensive National Health Insurance would have been in place for the last several decades and we wouldn’t even be worrying about a Social Securty/Medicare Crisis.

I’ll tell you the truth that the Democratic Party should stand up and dare the Republican Party to exercise their stupid option to eliminate the filibuster. Then, we pull out all of the stops, take back the white house and both houses of congress and turn a deaf ear to wailing and nashing of teeth as we push through all of the things that the GOP has oppossed for the last 80 years. If they can’t see the downside to ending the filibuster for their side of the aisle, then f*** them. The best way for them to learn is through experience.
