More reason to oppose Roberts nomination pt. 2
His consistent efforts to side against women on gender issues.
Supreme Court nominee John G. Roberts Jr. consistently opposed legal and legislative attempts to strengthen women’s rights during his years as a legal adviser in the Reagan White House, disparaging what he called “the purported gender gap” and, at one point, questioning “whether encouraging homemakers to become lawyers contributes to the common good.”
Caveats: I, too, am against the ERA (on grounds that it is unnecessary, not that it is not a Good Thing) and the last part could have been a joke, but even granting those, the use of the phrase “purported gender gap” is as big of a red flag as you’re going to find. It’s akin to the current wingnut fashion of saying “so-called separation of church and State in our Constitution.” It’s a danger sign. It’s right there.
Now, fight Dems!
