Pet Peeve o’ the day

Mid-level (or lower) bloggers having fund raising drives, particularly when they’re bringing almost nothing to the table.

Like, you know, those that blog like I do, with half-baked posts of meaningless drivel or news links to interesting bits with no analysis. You’d think I’d rethink my standards here, but I just can’t get around the part where I add nothing to the discourse.

At any rate, I guess if they get the money, more power to them. To me, however, the pleading seems crass and unseemly. You never see dooce fundraising, do you? And she brings something original and funny to the table (talented people suck!), and she’s hosted on her own domain, even.

New rule: if you blog on blogspot or blogger or livejournal or any place that lets you blog for free and you fundraise, you’re off the island and on the s-list. Note: this does not get self-hosters or named blogs off the hook, it’s just a bright line that shant be crossed.

And now I’m just rambling. It’s funny, you’d think that since I was typing I could go back and correct the ramblingness… but you’d be wrong. Weird, huh.
