Is there any current band with a bigger disparity between awesomeness of the music and craptacularity of the vocals & lyrics than Muse? They’re Queen 2.0.

I thought they were going to be a what-if-Kid-A-never-happened version of Radiohead, but instead appear to be closer to Rent fans who happen to have an electric guitar handy.

Anyway, it was Amy Winehouse performing on some award show for MTV Europe and doing, uh, vocaleze. Basically singing phonemes in key with no clue as to what the lyrics should be.

Radiohead’s latest tactic of direct to consumer sales at whatever price the consumer wants to pay is genius on multiple levels. It’s a fantastic way to leverage their fame (and fame is the only thing major media labels are good at) while also treating their fans as partners instead of potential criminals. No DRM. No limited distribution through a crappy media player *cough* iTunes *cough*.

Just music. Direct to the fans from the artists. The way it should be.
