Preferred Format: OGG (why?) ... and about those samples ...

Most Recent Tunage: Reliance

Note: if you are trying to listen to the mp3's in streaming format, you are going to be sorely disappointed - my upload speed is 220kbps (effective), the mp3s are encoded at 256kbps... it's not pretty. So I highly encourage you to download the songs rather than stream them.

However, in the interests of everyone, the samples have been encoded at 64kbps and my connection may be able to simultaneously handle two or three. They don't sound very good, but they're the full song, in case you want to try-before-dl or something.

Mondegreen music is also available on commercial servers (usually with lesser quality for the downloads, but higher for the streams), so if you really want to stream, I highly suggest using one of those servers.

TitleQuick Description/Evocative of...
Opinion
It's...Funk/Pop. James Brown-meets 3SP.
Blurb: Funny, funky, upbeat, cynical... always a party favorite. Hey, a tamborine!
Lifted
It's... Surf Funk. Hey, a new genre all my own. Some rock influences. Can't think of a comp.
Blurb: Upbeat, dynamic, fun, kinda dancy. My first drum lead!
Travis Bickle
It's... Alternative/Pop/Rock/Blues/whatever. Elements of Tool, Radiohead, and Gypsy music.
Blurb: Narrative hard rockin/soft and dynamic swinging piece. It's musically interesting and catchy besides. My first tune in 3/4 time!
Learning 2 Breathe
It's...Rock/Pop. Beatles, Oasis, Radiohead, Lenny Kravitz influences
Blurb:Uplifting, pretty, and dynamic, with an intimate vocal sound. Has a Beatles-esque riff in there!
spastic cologne
It's...Punk/Rock/Psychadaelia. Sex Pistols, Nirvana, and whatever your fav psych band is.
Blurb: Misanthropic, lots of crunch, short short short (it's punk, whaddya expect?). It has some pretty-sounding phasered bookends!
n? Marmalade
It's... a groove instrumental. Brand New Heavies, Graham Central Station, etc.
Blurb: Funky, dancy, in an old-school R&B way. Only live playing going on here, no samplers, no dj's, no bullocks.
Phonga
It's... Pop/Rock. A 50's pop tune with a modern edge.
Blurb: Catchy, playful, narrative. Better than a kick in the pants!
Ripoff
It's... Rock. Straight-up Sabbath-meets-Nirvana rock/punk/pop. Which is kind of the point...
Blurb: You didn't think I had a straight rock song in me, did you? For the full effect, play this one loudly. Very loudly.
Wastin' Time
It's... Rock, mebbe alterna-rock. Jane's Addiction, Pearl Jam, + some jazz and blues.
Blurb: Easily accessible piece featuring some humor and some guitar gawd riffing. There's even a psuedo-jazz solo!
Chance Encounter
It's... Shuffle Blues, with that Chris twist. Stevie Ray meets Chuck Berry meets a gazillion shuffle blues players.
Blurb: Simple, catchy, fun. Has a nice idiomatic solo, or so I've been told.
Superior (slight return)
It's... Funk/Rock/R&B. More James Brown-meets-3SP, plus some B'Gock and a touch of Beatles/campfire singing.
Blurb: Humorous, self-referential, fun, upbeat, kinda dancy old-school R&B feel. One of my favorite songs.
Needs Mo' Salt
It's... Funk/groove/fusion/rock in the Parliament/Funkadelic mode with a N'awlins twist (Galactic, etc.). I've also been told it's Zappa-esque.
Blurb: Kinda wacky, kinda funny, definitely fun. See how many pop culture references you can spot.

Mondegreen - HoozatHoozat
TitleQuick Description/Evocative of...
Theme from Hoozat
It's... a dream, it's a scheme, it's... hoozat? The recurring theme of the Hoozat album (funk/groove)
Rapping Waxodic
It's... Rock/Punk. More rock than punk. Probably influenced by the recent run of "garage" bands.
Blurb: Catchy and kooky. Destined to be my first radio-friendly unit shifter!
Reliance
It's... rock meets funk, let's call it alternagroove.
Blurb: White man soul meets QotSA-influenced rawk. Enough bass to shake your booty and the foundations of your house.
Conflicted
A song about lovehatelove
Senescence and Peppermint
Much wailing and gnashing against the dying of the light.

TitleQuick Description/Evocative of...
2Fingers (heroin mix)
It's... Alterna-ballady. Can't think of any comparisons.
Blurb:Mellow, lots of room, 7 minutes, some interesting dynamics, heroin mix is waaay downtempo. More vocal tracks than you can shake a stick at, and some are in tune!

It's... the first two songs off of the Sgt. Pepper album
Blurb: It rocks, yo. Music only.

Blurb: It rocks, yo.
Short People (karaoke)
It's... Randy Newman, fergawdsake. You knew that, right?
Blurb: A jazzier/poppier/more energetic take on it, without straying too far from the beaten path. Music only.

Ready (demo)
It's... Rock/psychadaelia instrumental. Parts of it are very Radiohead-esque
Blurb: A song from my Cakewalk days. Some cool spaceship sounds.
Indecision (demo)
It's... an Alterna Ballad. Think: non-lame Poison meets Alice in Chains
Blurb: Jazzy/psychadaelia and acoustic based. Not half-bad for being one of my Cakewalk (psuedo drum and psuedo bass) songs.
Marmalade (demo)
It's... a groove instrumental. See nu Marmalade for details.
Blurb: This is one of my Cakewalk songs, so it's best used as comparison v. n? Marmalade. Still, fun, groovy tune.
Fake Plastic Trees
It's... a Radiohead cover.
Blurb: It's a slow, beautiful song. No sample, but if you want to hear just-chris-and-his-acoustic this one is for you.
New Kind of Kick
It's... a Cramps cover song; early 80s rock/punk.
Blurb: this is way better than the Jesus and Mary Chain version

If you would like to listen to Mondegreen music in streaming format or download the files, I highly recommend using one of these other services; they have much more bandwidth available than I and are less likely to bog down.

Purchasing. If you would like to purchase The Return of the Blue Mushroom, it is $9.99 + shipping costs and may be purchased by clicking on the "buy" button to the right. If you would prefer to not go through PayPal, you may also buy the album from cdbaby, indielaunch, and mp3.com. Since all of those sites take a significant chunk out, the price will be a bit higher there.

What you get with the CD is the jewel box and included artwork, and a nice-looking CD. If you would like to order multiple copies you may do so via PayPal or mail me and we can arrange something to our mutual satisfaction.

Donations. (AKA, Why Pay for the Cow If the Milk is Free?) Mondegreen music is free for download. I do, however, gratefully and humbly accept any donations you might wish to bestow for my hard work and, one would hope, artistry. If you do choose to donate, there is no minimum required amount and I wouldn't even begin to try to suggest a desired range, although I believe the minimum amount PayPal will accept is a penny. Give what you think the music is worth.

Until alternate methods are arranged, donations will be through PayPal. I also have a c2it account, mail me if you would prefer that route (they don't have a donation system, so I can't make a button for it here). Amazon charges a hefty tax so I won't be using their service, but if you know of any others please mail me. If you want to do this the old fashioned way, mail me and I'll send you my snail mail address.

Please note, donations are different than album purchases, and this particular button is simply the electronic equivalent of tossing coins into the cup/open guitar case/monkey paw. I thank you very much for any donation you may make.

Don't have PayPal? You get a $5 credit just for signing up. Better yet, if you sign up using me as a referral, I get a $5 credit as well. We both win! Sweet.

Don't want to send money? Send a postcard!

Unless otherwise noted, all of the songs listed here are entirely the work (read: fault) of Chris: all composition, arranging, production, and performance (yes, even the drums). Thanks go to everyone who made me what I am and these songs what they are. Y'all rock.

All of my work is released under the Open Audio License, version 1.0.1 (or later, if it is modified in the future). In a nutshell, this means you are free to access, copy, distribute, modify, create derivative works from, and publicly perform my songs using any medium or format, provided that Original Author (that's me) attribution be included with any copies distributed or public performances of the work, as well as any derivative works based on my songs. So:

About the Samples: In the interests of allowing those with little patience or little bandwidth to test drive my songs before downloading the full version, I've made some samples of the recordings (as a side benefit, I have enough bandwidth to stream a grand total of one at a time. Hooray). The samples contain selected portions of the main song; enough to get the gist of the full piece (generally including major structural changes to the songs and other interesting points). All were encoded with LAME at 128kbps and have been edited down to 1:30, plus or minus :15 (mostly minus). The full songs have been encoded with significantly higher quality (or no loss at all with the .shn files), so if you enjoy the sample, I encourage you to grab the full version. Don't forget to give me some feedback if you like/don't like my music.

Two final notes: one, if you like any of these or have any feedback you'd like to give, feel free to mail me (good, bad, whatever); and two (I'll repeat), if you are trying to listen to the mp3's in streaming format, you are going to be sorely disappointed - my upload speed is 220kbps (effective), the mp3s are encoded at 256kbps. It's not pretty... so download rather than stream them.
