Shows I've Seen

This is largely written from memory. I think I missed a couple of shows, but oh well. Not like there's anything recent to report anyway.

Spring '93 @ University of Washington HUB

Opened for BlackHappy. After this show they were forbidden from ever performing on campus again, due to Ty's encouragement of stagedivers and general antagonistic behavior.

December 31, 199 @ The Paramount

Sister Psychic opened (and sucked), headlined by Gruntruck. This was KISW's (a Seattle radio station) Rockin' New Years Show. Most of the people came to see Gruntruck, which is a decent buttrock band. Definitely not GAQS' type of crowd, though. At one point most of the mosh pit was spitting at Ty on stage. It was gross, but looked kind of cool from where I was at (seating, closer to back of the theater). The fountain was begun by Ty after he got mad at those up front for not holding him up when he wanted to crowd surf. The moshers didn't want to hold him, though, and he got frustrated. Ty he called them a few names ("motherfuckers" comes to mind) and proceeded to spit upon them. Hence the fountain of spit back up at him. I also remember them playing Shifting at this show. Ty wore a faded purple suit, which would have been cool except he was wearing a nasty (read: dirty, old looking) t-shirt underneath and chuckies.

Summer '94 @ the Weathered Wall

Numerous other guests were there on the ground (main) floor of the club, most notably half of Alchohol Funnycar. This was a benefit for Home Alive, a self-defense and rape prevention organization. It was after this show that Ty was given the harmonica referred to in Party Dream. My favorite concert by far.

Summer '94 @ King Theatre

3DS&M opened. I wish 3DS&M would have put out an album, they are/were marvelous. Their name comes from the first names of the band members (the lead singer, Disha is amazing... very much a magnet of attention. The only other thing of note from this performance is that it was an all ages show and my friend Joel almost had his head taken off by some freaked out crowd-surfing skinhead. Oh yeah, and Feel My Way rocked.

Summer '94 @ Seattle Center

Headliners, no opening act. This was for the "Pain in the Grass" KISW free summer concert series. They started off with stereo (a slow spacey groove) and the crowd moshed. They played a faster song and the crowd moshed some more. The police asked the band to calm the crowd down, so they played that No Favors (a true punk song, 2:30, 120 bpm). They also played "lazy" and Ty brought his dog on stage.

Fall '94 (late September) @ Moe's MoRockin' Cafe

With 3DS&M. 3DS&M played an incredible set. GAQS was kind of off on the first half of their show, but killed the place during the second half. Ty was offering a 1973 1st place trophy from a crash test derby to anyone who could make it on stage. No one made it.

Winter '94 @ Seattle Center Arena

This was for Extrafest, where we were all extras for the movie Geogia (with Jennifer Jason Leigh, who absolutely cannot sing). Basically most of the crowd came to see GAQS, and we got bent over and fucked. With no vaseline. After four hours of lame direction and overzealous security, GAQS came out, fully expecting to be in the movie, or at least filmed, which they weren't. They also got cut off in the middle of their third song by the retards in charge Argh! They were pissed. The crowd was pissed. They decided to do one of their massively long, incredibly cool medleys that took an extra 10 minutes before the film people could kick them off stage. Their best medley, in my opinion, was done at another Weathered Wall show (not the Home Alive one); it went La Bamba -> their own song -> some Rolling Stones song -> their own song -> Tequila -> their own song -> La Bamba.

25 April 1995 @ Moe's

The Presidents of the United States of America was the second act (this was before they hit it big). They had a great sense of humor and stole the show. Suite 75 (Chris Novoselic's new band - they suck) opened. GAQS played a really short set, and said they were coming back later but never did. Nevertheless, they played about 8 songs, most from Reloaded (including Party Dream (Yay!), TV Girl, dizzy, and los vargos (which ripped the roof off)).

22 May 1995 @ RKCNDY

Played a decent show. All songs from Reloaded except for Dirty Water Ocean and Feel My Way (Where's can't believe??? They hadn't played that in ages). Ty seemed disappointed by the crowd response, which was good but not great. I think it was mainly due to the fact that the songs were new to most people, and their new album is a lot mellower than Wonderful Virus. At any rate, I thouroughly enjoyed myself, and managed to snag the set list after the show was over.

Spring/Summer 1996 @ the OffRamp

Billed as Space C*cksuckers after their scheduled show at the Paramount got cancelled for some reason. Don't remember much else except Ty rolling his eyes back in his head as he sang. Played some tunes from what would be on New Disaster

Summer/Fall 1996 @ the OffRamp

The last show I saw the full band play in. Played a lot of New Disaster material which they promised was "coming out soon" (ha ha).

Summer 1995 @ Moe's

Saw Ty doing his Calm Down Juanita stuff with Arliss the Spoonman as he opened for ... someone (2nd act)... and the Supersonic Soul Pimps (3SP headlined). Amazing show, but not because of CDJ, which sucked pretty much. I think Ty just thought he'd get up there and do something but it was kind of flat. He did impress the hell out of me, though, by playing someone's right-handed guitar upside down and backwards (he's left-handed, so had to flip it over).
